she looks very apprehensive, which you have caught well, however i think the photo might be improved if there was more room on the left of the photo and if you had not chopped off her hands & fingers,. If you have the original, maybe go back and consider a different crop?
Sinead, I don’t think looking down on Saoirse’s forehead is the best approach for these kind of shots – it’s almost as if she is reluctant to be photographed (and my daughter cetrtainly was on her communion!). For me, seeing the face is important, and if necessary, this may mean kneeling down – and getting down to children’s eye level is usully a good idea when photographing them. The first posted shot looks better than the latter set as a result of this.
