Save me from my Printing Hell

Further to my earlier reply, I have only just discovered that the exact same calibration aid exists at the bottom of this very page!! (Sneaks out round the back and kicks his own arse for being stupid!!)
nfl-fanParticipantDon’t worry Big Al… it was only added today in response to your initial post.
jb7ParticipantA step wedge is actually a good idea-
If you’re printing in mono, this might be useful-
printing it out might show how your printer handles known tones.
You can use your info palette to show percentages onscreen,
and compare those levels to your printed sample. For colour work, you could try this one-
I have better ones on disk,
but I can’t find them on the web-Again, print it out, then compare your files and printed results to it-
I’ve been doing some printing today, on that Hannemuhmwahaahaauele paper,
and the differences between different profiles and papers can be vast-seems like you’ve just got to keep printing, and taking notes…
and take note of the colour profiles of these images too-Hope this helps…

nfl-fanParticipantThanks lads.
Just a quick update –
I bought a Spyder3 which arrived yesterday. I used it last night to calibrate the monitor and the results were outstanding.
Granted I haven’t printed anything yet… but the monitor brightness setting came way down in conjunction with the step by step guide,
and the colours on the monitor are far better. As a litmus test I transferred some images from my PC to me Da’s PC which is often a scary experience colour and brightness wise but they
were pretty good following the Spyder3 calibration.I picked up the Spyder3 http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk (there was 20% off the retail price) along with a light meter and some film. First time using
these guys and they were very good. Fast, efficient and decent enough prices.Sometimes cheap isn’t cheerful… die HueyPro, die.

You’re better off with the acid free papers-
Who’s A.H.?
Or am I being stupid?
