SB-600 vs SB-900

Gonna throw another spanner in the works here.

Take a look at Radiopoppers. They’ll soon be available in the UK. They act as a radio bridge between the TTL functions on the flash. They are also releasing a Jr version which is manual only (like PWs) and has a reliable range of 1600ft. They will be $60 each.

I have been tempted by PWs for months but am holding out for these.

AND I also have a couple of those Vivitar 285HVs. They are a great robust cheap flash for off camera work. Ideal as a 3rd or 4th light in your set up to add an extra kiss of light when you need it.

I shoot with Nikon D200, in some cases I will hang a small and light tripod against the wall and stick one or two flashes on it, and I’ll be probably somewhere else with the camera. That Vivitar285HV looks like a good investment I could get 2 of those and one SB-900 so I can use the TTL on some occasions. Can you get those flashes in Europe I saw B&H has them in stock. Do you need hot shoe or sync cable for Vivitar?

I was looking at RadioPopers last night they look great any idea when would they be available in UK, I’m willing to wait and if you take into account range and price w  that would be some set up.

So here is my set up at the moment:
    SB-900
    2 X Vivitar285HV (maybe even 3 of those)
    El-transmitter
2X EL-receivers (3?) alternatively radio poppers depending on availability
Two soft boxes not sure yet which ones any recommendations I was looking at Intrefit ones.

Thanks Guys for all your help great stuff!

The Vivitars don’t work with Nikon’s CLS, they can only be triggered with a radio transmitter for example and used in manual mode.

Dont know about Vivitar but you need to check that the flash you pick and the radio trigger can work in groups. Some flashes can be triggered but cant be set up as a group.

I found this topic on the internet (Elinchrom skyport + Vivitar 285HV)

I would use the vivitar flash as a external flash triggered by Elinchrome or RP

It looks like a little bit of soldering can get you sorted :)

Ok I did a bit of research tonight  and it appears that radio poppers jrx will be shipping in northern America on the last week of Feb. Europe is to follow 8 weeks later.
    The prices are:
    $69 JrX Transmitter Individual
    $59 JrX Receiver Basic Individual
    $89 JrX Receiver Studio Individual
I think it is worth waiting the prices are very attractive, and if you take into account range awesome stuff, another advantage is that you can access the battery, where it is not possible in skyport receiver.
Here you can find more info Radio Poppers
