Scanning medium format negs

Hello companeros.
I’m working with medium format at the moment – shooting Portra with a Hassleblad. I’m getting negs back from a lab, then doing fairly basic, low-grade scans with a cranky old Epson flatbed scanner just so i can view/edit the work. I’m trying to source better scanning options so i’d be interested in trading tips with anybody out there with a similar workflow. I’ve tried getting a lab to scan negs but I’m finding it hard to get decent results that way.
I’m based in Bundoran, Donegal but find myself in Dublin fairly regularly. I’m trying to find out about arts centres/studios/resource centres etc. that have higher-end scanners like the Nikon Coolscan or the Imacon, places where you can drop in and scan your own work, and they charge you by the day. (Maybe it’s too good to be true!!) Would be great to find out about anywhere in Dublin that offers options like these, and even better if anyone knows of any such service in the Northwest – Sligo area, etc.
Much appreciated if any of you medium format folk out there could give me a heads-up on how you scan/print your work.http://www.martinmcgagh.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

In a darkroom :-)
… dont know if you will be near Dublin but http://www.ruared.ie have a high quality hasselblad scanner that you can scan your negs on. Haven’t used it myself but is supposed to make superb scans…
MarkKeymasterApparently The Gallery Of Photography have one of those Hasselblad scanners (saw a thread on it here on the site a few days I think)
M62Participantdamien.murphyParticipantI also wet-print my medium format images in a darkroom, although shooting in black and white makes that a far less onerous task than if it were colour.
I don’t know your scanning requirements, but a flatbed can do a decent enough job for medium format, although not in the same field as a high end dedicated scanner of course. I’ve scanned a few of my medium format negs on my flatbed (Canon 8800F) that way as an experiment and found the quality pleasing, but curling negatives make things tricky. http://www.betterscanning.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; offers some decent solutions to address flatness issues with medium format negs, should you decide to stick with the flatbed option.
A similar thread to yours was started here a few days ago, and you might find some helpful suggestions there too – filmscanners-in-dublin-t40621.html
