Scanning Negs To CD?

Does anyone post negs (or film) off to get scanned to CD? I had been getting mine done in Jessops but they are mad busy this time of year and their scanner thingy is on the blink, also they only scan 35mm and not 120.

I see lots of places advertised in Black and White Photography magazine, just wondering has anyone used any of them.

    Cheers,
    Sinead.

    Sinead,

Not quite what you’re asking for but; I just got my first negs processed (2x35mm + 1×120 b+w) and scanned (2x35mm) to CD yesterday.
I used Peak Imaging in the UK.

I posted them off on last Wednesday and they arrived either Monday or Tuesday (wasn’t here those days).

You can get different levels of scanning done. They look quite expensive to get already developed film scanned though.
They seem to have something called Selective Scanning… which is aimed at those just wanting certain frames scanned.

In the past I’ve emailed them regarding postal prices to Ireland and got a very quick and favourable response
so maybe they can give you a good price to scan a whole set of negs… I’d have thought that it was less work for them that way.

Anyhow, let me know who you decide to go with :)

Another option is to buy an Epson flatbed scanner and scan them your self. For 200 euro you will get a good scanner for both 35 and 120 which will scan to a good quality.

Have never sent my negs to get scanned always scanned myself, less chance of them dirtying them etc…

Steve, thanks for the offer, not stuck really, just a general question really.

Gunns develop a roll of 120 and scan to CD for €15. The scans are pretty good for the money (4547×3649 pixels for 6×7). You wouldn’t make giant prints from them but they’re more than good enough to see what you’ve got and then decide which ones you want to get properly scanned later.

Paid about 450euro for the V700, the good cheaper models start at around 200 though…
