cos scanning in Dublin is putting it simply a rip-off
Maybe we are a victim of our economy. Minimum wage is about ?8.00 hour and scanner operators are by their nature skilled computer/ technical people so they earn more than that. What about the time taken to discuss the job and write the job sheet, clean the film, mount it, preview it, colour correct it, size it and profile it (correctly), and now scan it. Review it in Photoshop (maybe modify it) and burn it to a disc. Add a little bit of profit for the lab (surely allowed) discuss the scan with the customer and get him to pay. Suddenly ?17.00 for an A5 may not seem that much. Scanning is one of those crafts that is not practical to have done in India or the like where the workforce is very skilled but the wages compared to Ireland are very low. So go on give the local guys a chance after all they are the ones that process the film…….
stcstcMemberi do agree that scanning costs are high, but they are not anything mental
for example metro imaging in London, charge ?17.50 for a CCD scan up to 20Mb
for a drum scan up to 80Mb its ?45
so that price you quoted is actually not that bad
the reason i picked metro is they are a house in the middle of the design area of london ie sort of the same as the centre of dub
MichaeleenParticipantI use the Nikon Super CoolScan5000, and would be happy to let others make use of it (at a nice price).

I just bought an Epson V750 pro scanner from sheldon
It the top of the line it will do quite large trannies etc,
I work for my self from home so if you want some stuff done, just left me know
Its not obviously the same as a real drum scan but better than most flatbeds etc
