Self-processing 4×5 and 617 E6

I’ve got both the 4 spindel & 8 spindel holders . Got it through Paddy Barker for around 5K new. He threw in an old 5×4 holder but I bought the newer version for £100. Although I’m a pro this equipment was purchased mainly for the 5×4 still life work that I do which meant process a sheet examine then tweak push or pull as required. Not much throughput I live in rural Donegal so waiting for Lab turnaround on E6 was unfeasable. Some of these machines were purchased for newspaper work and so are very robust. Contact Paddy Barker I’m sure he’ll give it a sterling review.

This is in ok condition, the crud would come out very easily with some warm water and detergent. The lack of bottles and tanks wouldnt be an issue but the shipping is very expensive and it would be risky to ship it that far IMHO

With few appearing on ebay.com or ebay.ie, why not search the country sites like ebay.de, find ones that are only shipping to their country and send a message to the seller asking them to reconsider so as to sell to Ireland. I’ve done this a few times with positive results.

    Alternatively you can pay a little over the ebay average and pick up a processor here;

    Good luck.

I just bought a JOBO CPE-2, but it’s seems too difficult for me, and too big, can’t take it back to my country, so now I just want get rid of it, and just using small tanks dev b&w is ok

So how much would you give it away for then?
Too bad I just bought materials to make a slosher…
    Sheet polycarbonate is surprisingly expensive-

What kind of drums did it come with?

    Hi Peter,
I don’t know if you have seen this already or not but here is a link which might be of interest on the Kodak website –

    Hi Peter,

Have you use cpe to process 4*5 E6 already?
Could you scan some 4*5 and upload?
I found a place to process 4*5 E6, but too expensive, 4.4euro each, so I want to process it myself.
ps: where to buy the E6 chemicals? Thanks

I bought a CPE-2 from eBay for €60 but it does not have any bottles, graduates or tanks with it
What size are the bottles and the graduates that come with the CPE-2?
Also, I am trying to figure which is the best tank to buy. I am looking to processing 1-2 rolls of 120 per week
and I don’t want to start wasting a lot of chemicals using a large tank.
Is 1520 tank sufficient for processing 1-2 rolls of 120 without wasting a lot of chemicals?

    Thanks

Also, which manufacturers E-6 chemicals are best to process velvia and film? Tetenal 3 Bath, Fuji 3 Bath or Kodak 6 Bath?
    Thanks

    Hi Darragh

Used both the fuji & tetenal & honestly you would need a microscope to spot any differences. I used tetenal most though but it was a cost factor. Andrews photo supplied the fuji & calumet the tetenal.

Tetenal works out better value than Fuji but it’s about the same as Kodak with First Call Photographic £48 sterling for the 5litre kits
I’ve read quite a bit that Fuji films requires 7mins 30sec instead of the 6mins 30sec for the first developer, is this your experience as well?
    Thanks

My experience was the preset auto normal setting was spot on anything else was a push or pull. Velvia rated at 32 though.

Here is my first result of doing E-6 using the CPE-2

I used the Kodak 6 bath chemical kit to do the processing.

I found that CPE-2’s thermostat is too close to the heating element to get a reliable reading, so I used a small aquarium pump (about 100 litres per hour) to agitate the water to ensure the thermostat was getting a more reliable reading and the temperature was kept consistent through out the process.
In order to measure out the chemicals properly, I found medical syringes where the most accurate especially when processing a reel in the small jobo tank (1520). These can be got on eBay for about £10 for 10 x 10ml and 5x 50ml.
According to the Kodak information, the first developer should be agitated for 6 mins but looking at the slides, I would think ideally the agitation should be for 6.30mins for the first developer for Fuji Velvia.

Well done Darragh, that looks good-
well, I’m assuming that you added some colour, or that you let velvia do its thing-

    But the shadows look dense-

Did you do any colour tests on the roll?

Again, very good, and the pump sounds like a good idea-
