I photographed the last game of the season for my school yesterday, very sad day! As I’m also in 6th year and will be leaving soon and I used to be on the rugby team before taking up sports photography.

The weather was very unpleasant yesterday, but it caused some nice light! And I always love rain in sports photos. I tried to do something different and get some detail shots too, not really something i’ve ever thought about doing before (see the third photo).

I’d love to get some opinions on them, see how I might improve. I will say, I stood for these photos, usually I’d sit but my jeans were getting destroyed by the rain and it was uncomfortable to stay sitting on my peli case like that, so I chose to stand.
Shot with a Canon 1D Mark IIN and Canon 300mm F/4L.

personally i don’t like number 3(as is not close enough to show just the detail and not far enough to show the injured person) but there’s nothing wrong with the rest of them, are a very nice set of photos. one can also argue about the strong contrast in the last photo but that can be the wanted effect.
    well done!

    well done!

I appreciate the feedback. The last photo is unfortunately heavily cropped so the quality of it is a bit poor and I think that’s making it a bit too contrasty, I’ll have to lower down the clarity on the RAW file a bit maybe.

    Thank you!
