Sepia shots for C&C please
-
fishjam45Participant
My friend asked me to take a few close-up shots of their new born baby boy. They bought a big frame made of slate with four 4″x6″ openings in it for the photos.
Hands and feet all in Sepia is what I was told :)
P.s. I entered the 7th shot into the Irish Times readers section of “The Gallery”, the theme was “New Year, New . . . “, I named the photo “New Year, New Life.”
Sorry for posting so many photos but I thought the more I posted the easier it would be for you to critique?
PitmaticMembernice set of images there I think the ones with darker backgrounds work best maybe blur the backgrounds of some of them slightly to draw attention to the details of the hands.
One photo i saw somewhere had three hands overlapping from grandparent, parent and then the childs and looked very effective ages of man rough to soft etc just an idea to think about if you do it again.
fishjam45ParticipantbullpostParticipant7th one is best for me.
The one point I would make is that these shots for me don’t adequately convey the vulnerability of the new-born child.
If you get a chance to reshoot , you might include more of the adults body.
This gives a more powerful perspective IMHO.fishjam45ParticipantPitmaticMemberto blur the background areas you can select them with the quick selection tool (i have elements 6) and then select guassian blur and experiment with the amount of blur less is more etc just experiment its the best way.

for what it is worth, my favourite is the last shot. :D :Dfishjam45ParticipantBroadford1 wrote:

AllinthemindParticipantLovely set of shot, well done on your win.
The sepia is a little muddy for me, I would have slanted the toning as white through to sepia.
Si
GrahamBParticipantFantastic set. Not usually a fan of sepia but it works so well here.
Really great idea for a set as well. I nephew on the way in April and my sister wants
to almost photo-document his entire life years. These kinda shots have given me tonnes of new ideasThanks for that.

Cheers Si,
I’ll give it a go and see if it makes a difference . . .

Cheers Graham :) I’m not normally a fan of sepia either, more of a black and white man myself but the owner of the female hand in the pics specified she wanted sepia :)
I have a feeling I’m gonna be asked to do something similar anytime anyone else I know has a baby . . . have a few more ideas myself too
