Shoot other day…

JohnnyMcMillanParticipant
Here’s a few shots from a test shoot I did the other day…more at viewable at http://www.johnnymcmillan.com under the “Studio 5” link…
LoGillParticipantHi there – welcome to the forum :)
Although the make up in the first is quite heavy I like the strong colours and lines – goes with her profile, and killer cheekbones :) .. I’m not sure about your crop though – I would suggest a symmetrical crop on the half of her face, keeping the chin in the frame ;) The lights in the background are a little distracting also
Second shot I like the natural light – and the pose – its just a bit dark on one side of her face with the hair covering the eye.. But I still like it alot actually, her expression is lovely.
With the third I feel undecided should I be looking at her or are you trying to show the dress.. so It doesn’t work for me I’m afraid .. Sorry :(

AnonymousParticipantHi John
(1) I like the first more so as its great to see models where the pores of theskin are still visible, find it quite annoying that verybody blurs the skin way too much giving it that covergirl look about it,your model has excellent bone structure therefore maybe a bit more play with lighting will really accentuate this, love the make -up,as Lorraine said the background is a little distracting maybe some vingetting leaving just the face exposed?(2)+(3) Using bay windows for natural light is perfect and is very popular for wedding and portrait photographers but i dont think the light was strong enough to give the face highlight and shadow on either side of the face, the third is a very elegent although i would like to see her hands maybe cropped below and a bit of silver reflector to add a little twinkle to her face.
Nice work John, look foward to see some more.
MTBIrelandParticipantsecond shot is fantastic.. but like everyone else I feel it is a bit dark… She has incredible eyes and if it was slightly brighter you would see this even more.
jb7Participantshe’s got great eyes and cheekbones-
I don’t see it as fashion, but if you concentrated on the portraiture with this model, I’m sure you’d get some great pictures-AllinthemindParticipantI’m going to be a bit geeky here :)
In all 3, there is something enigmatic about the expressions. “FAN-TAS-TIC”. I want to see more, look again.
The contrast control, technical aspects let down the shots for me. Your model gives “Good face”, perfect for emotive portrait work, I think these could have been even better with a little more shooting/lighting control.
Thanks for posting, model is fab. As the photographer, you caught/created the expressions. Just checked your site, there are some other shots there, what a great model!
Si
dr_wolfenspielParticipantthree great shots johnny,
for me i think the first one has the most potential. i love the way she is to the side of the image, the out of focus lights in the background and the contrasts. but i would prefer her face to be cropped a bit differently.
