Should I try return it

johnc24Participant
Hi all
I had my Sony A200 for a few months and the LCD is gone in it. It did go through some pretty rough packaging when travelling but do you reckon its worth a bash taking it and saying I switched it on one day and got this knackered LCD screen? Would it be a possibility this can happen?
Thoughts please
regards
John5faytheParticipantHi John,
I have had my own business for 21 years supplying equipment to
the end user.I would always advise being totally honest in any dealings with
a supplier.I know it could be said, I would say that, but I think the fact that you
felt the need to ask the question is probably an answer in itself. There is also the fact that people who tell the truth don’t have to have
such a good memory. My opinion. You did ask.
John.
johnc24ParticipantOk your opinion true, but I disagree
I have a good memory but I don’t need it to recall lies if thats what your implying. I would have no problem chancing my arm as it goes on it a lot more places.
I being ripped off in this country, so I would have no hiccups doing it.If I am to be honest in any dealings with a supplier what am I going to receive……..”have a nice day” response. And even if I was willing to get the LCD repaired which I probably would, they are going to try and ride me to death on the cost of repair also. You may well believe what I am doing is wrong but I don’t, I am merely reciprocating what they try and do to me.
John
nfl-fanParticipantIf it’s under warranty and you have a receipt then there should be no problem.
If you have neither then your chances of chancing one are debatable…. depends where you bought it I suppose. If it was from a reputable dealer then chances could be good. If it was from an eBay cowboy then I’d say slim to none.
johnc24ParticipantHi John
I bought it from Dixon’s and no I don’t have the receipt.
But I though they kept records on the computers of all their sales no?John
5faytheParticipantHi John,
Sounds like you had your mind made up before you asked
the question. It also sounds like you have been very unlucky with
the suppliers you have dealt with.I must say that in my experience this is not the way business
is conducted generally. In my opinion any company that would conduct it’s business with the
object of ripping off or riding customers to death would not survive
very long.John.
nfl-fanParticipantIf you bought from Dixons then there is a good chance you might get sorted… but a lot of these stores have a no receipt no return/refund policy and they can be quite strict.
If you paid with your Visa then you will have some proof of payment.

John, I only wanted to know did folks reckon it was worth my time trying.
Believe me I am the last person to cheat or fool someone, I mean if it was a good supplier and they looked after me in the past, I do agree about being up front and getting a solution at a reasonable cost. But surely you know Dixons are not going to treat me like that and thats why I have to act in this way with them.

5faytheParticipantHi John,
Both my replies may have sounded a bit preachy.
That is the nature of having a discussion in this way.
The written word do’sent convey the body language &
expressions that a face to face does.Where you choose to purchase any item that can go wrong can
turn out to be a very important decision if the thing actually
goes wrong. The goods I buy (to sell on) are bought from suppliers who stand over their
products, are reliable with stock and look after me if something
goes wrong.I can buy a lot of the stuff cheaper elsewhere but the true cost of anything
is not always monetary alone.I’m preaching again but I hope you get my drift.
John.
ExpresbroParticipantHi John,
I reckon that it will end up going back to the manufacturers..I don’t think Dixons have an in house repair service for the likes of DSLR’s..but I could be wrong.
I would imagine that most modern DSLR’s should be capable of withstanding a fair amount of abuse. So unless you bounced it off the ground I wouldn’t have any qualms about returning it and asking for it to be checked.
If it was bounced off the ground, or something similar I’d presume there will be evidence to the fact on the body.
I’d imagine at the end of the day it will be down to Sony’s service dept to decide if the damage was caused by misuse or by a flaw in the screen.
I don’t think lack of a receipt should stop you returning it if you stand your ground.

isityourselfParticipantIf there’s evidence of it being bashed through packaging or lack of receipt, then I can’t imagine it’s worth your while.
When my 400D was pushed over I went back to the store and just simply asked could it be covered on the warranty or not (I did explain what happened). The entire mirror box had fallen out inside and was dmaaged. Firstly, they wanted the receipt of purchase, then they sent it to Canon and tried to get the repair covered on the warranty for me but weren’t able to.

johnc24ParticipantHi guys
First of all the guy I dealt with was decent and put some effort into helping me and finding my receipt so fair play there.
Apparently he reckons that the warranty only covers mechanical problems, he said he would happily send it to sony but they would more than likely send it back saying it was accidental damage and possibly impose a charge and if they did elect to fix it they would charge me for replacing the LCD and shipping etc.
He told me the only way the LCD can break is due to dropping or excess pressure.
so it looks like I am having to run a new camera purchase by the woman of the house…
Thanks all for your thoughts
John
ExpresbroParticipantIs it that expensive to get a LCD repaired? Surely nothing like a new camera?
If it is very expensive..investigate your house insurance. Depending on the cover it can cover accidental damage to items..even if it happened away from home. I know mine does.
