Any opinions on the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8?
Looking like its going to be a my next purchase. Talking to a few pro’s they think its very good.
Also helps its €2k cheaper than the Canon 300mm prime. :D :D
iTomParticipantHi Onlooker,
I had a 120-300 sigma a few years ago before I changed over to Cannon and I found it to be a very good glass and it was pretty quick, the only problem is that it is a very heavy lens you will a good mono pod or go on the weights for a few months.iTom….

Cheers Tom.
I have a good manfrotto monopod so it shouldn’t be too bad.
I currently have a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 but looking at the Sigma to give me the extra reach for Sport. What do you reckon?
iTomParticipantWell for the money the are a very good lens,if you were to buy a canon you are looking at over €4500.
As I said I had one and it served me very well, the only thing was the weight its over 6lbs.I think myself you should go for it and you wont be sorry, its very hard to pick up a second hand one as people are holding on to them as the are not standing them big money.
Tom….
BeamCatcherParticipantHmm… you do get a spanking new Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L-IS for €2400,- from BH Photo, and even if you pay VAT and import duty that only comes up to around € 3K. Trust me… worth looking into. :D

SteveDParticipantHave you considered the Canon 100-400L? The Sigma is a good lens, but I’m not sure if moving from 200mm to 300mm is going to get you as close as you think.

OnLookerParticipantThe 100-400mm isn’t really an option as its not f2.8.
To get the 400mm range, I can get an extender for use during the day on the Sigma.
I think the Sigma would give me alot more flexibility.
