Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has the above lens or has used it and what are their opinions of it. I am looking at getting a lens that will cover a large focal range without breaking the bank. My wife is from Colombia and we will be heading there this year so I am looking at packing one lens with the camera body. it is to fit a Nikon D200 so all opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I have the canon version. It’s not the sharpest lens you will ever come across but it does the job fine as a walk around lens especially on trips where you don’t want to be loaded down with gear.

I have a Quantaray 18-200 which I believe is a Sigma under another name, I use it all the time
it is on the camera 75% of the time and a great all rounder for holidays, would hightly recommend
it, my Dad has the Sigma branded lens and uses it on his Nikon D90 and loves it too.

Personally I would go for the 18-250 OS as it is optically slightly better, and I believe it is HSM as well. I don’t think there is much of a size difference either.

I had the 18-200, 18-200 OS and 18-250 OS (last two due to a mixup at the camera shop)

if given a choice, for travel, I’d take the 18-200 non HSM, non OS due to its very very small size.

All in all, for snapshots it is a brilliant lens, a little soft in the corners, and large sample variation as regards focus accuracy, so if you could test out a few before buying, that’d be ideal.

    Hope this helps!
