sigma lens error

  • HI all , I have a sigma 17/35mm aspherical hsm lens that when fitted to 5d works for a while and then it shows an error in the camera and fails to allow to take a photograph.
lens made in japan 17-35mm 1:2.8-4 at the side that locks to camera lens has a red dot and the contacts are divided in 2 groups.
5 small contacts in 1st group and 1large and 1 small in next group.serial no 2008840.
Is there any way for me to find out what this lens is suitable for , its a shame that i cant use it as its a nice lens and does take lovely photos when it does seem to work

Maybe just bad contacts have you tried cleaning the contacts in the
lens and camera, a small eraser like you get on the end of a pencil works
a treat, just make sure to hold the camera upside down so that no bits
fall into the body. might just work, strange that it works for a while then
    stops though! :?

Thanks shutterbug will give that a try and see what happens, never thought of the contascts in the camera , Regards Pat :D

After a long day searching the web for an answer , i came across a site where I learned that sigma lenses have had a lot of problems fitting cannon due to body upgrades, they say that you can upgrade the chip in the { camera or lens } not sure on which 1 and it should work then ..no guarantees
any 1 else have had experiences with this lens
