Hi – Been a while since I posted anything! I was out over the weekend photographing 2 of my very dear friends who are setting up a “simple living” fair in the spring locally. They wanted some nice “country” portraits done for the local papers as well as some “staged” shots for some magazines they are hoping to get in to as well. My lens is f4.5/5 (I think) so alot of the background detail showed up in the woodland shots which I didn’t like but until I get a new lens to combat this then I guess I am stuck with it! I also used a few different colour treatments.

Examples of some of them are below…C&C welcome. More are available on my flickr.

I would pick the third one if they were looking straight in the camera, and the fourth if a tree wasn’t growing out of the ladies head on the left. The second coudl be good, too, but again, there is no connection with the camera.

The last one looks like a cd cover for a music band.

Some good shots on your flickr site, worth a visit.

#1 has real connection and great angle and #5 is great too – does look like a CD cover
#3 is good fun picture i’d say they liked but for me they are quite small in the frame

Last one for me I think-
although the band might be the Clancy brothers-

I like the first as well, though it looks more like a muso shot than the last…
Perhaps the angle is telling me that you could have shot straighter, wider?

No 1 is my fav Mari and perhaps a tighter crop on no 3
You can get a lend of my 17-70 if you like 2.8 on the 17mm end so should give you the background you want
    Or i have a 50mm 1.8

    last one works for me.

Needing connection with the camera is overrated I think.

:D when your shooting in a wood that tends to happen! I never noticed that until you pointed it out.

Thanks for the comments peeps! Number 1, 3 & 4 are my favs. But I love the blue door in the 2nd…I think I have another where they are both looking at the camera so must use that one. The ladies picked number 1 for the papers so watch out if your in the Donegal area!

Thanks Cathal…I have the 50 1.8 already but I only have a D40 which it won’t autofocus on which is a bummer but I’m saving up for a D90/D300 so hopefully by the spring I should have it. I’ll keep the other lens in mind if I’m out anytime soon again :D

Nice set Mari… real earthy feel to them and processed well to reflect this.
