A few from a couple of weeks back… Just some specs. 580 EX II mounted with a shoot through 45″ umbrella. Bogen background lit with 480 EX gelled for blue effect.

    C&C welcome and appreciated.

    Hi Dave,

I be happy to have taken these.

I’m no expert on formal portraiture but these look very
    well done to my eye.

Nice smile and engagement well captured.

    John.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement John. :) She wanted something nice to send home to her daughter in Thailand. It was cold wet and dark outside so we did these.

Well done – lovely natural shots and a lovely model.

    Hello Dave

Nice set of shots, with the second one being my favourite, with one slight niggle being the light on the hair on her left between the arm and the head and the small light spot on the hair on the right. Again as I said these are niggles and I would have been delighted to have taken anything near this good.

As someone who loves tight crops … my main recommendation would be to crop out the space you’ve left at the top – particularly in the top two images.

For that reason the third appeals to me most – but then I’d be looking to see her face the light so her beautiful eyes are lit.

Great model :) worth shooting again :)

Thanks for the comment Broadford. I’ll pass on the compliment. :)

Peter. I just remembered. I used a Gary Fong Lightsphere mounted on the flash behind her in an effort to try and get a catch light on her hair and to light the background as evenly as possible. The catch light didn’t work obiviously.

LoGill. I quite like tight crops too. It just never occured to me on these.
