Six Spot Burnet

Taken hand held at on my 40D with Sigma 105 Macro Lens. 1/60th sec F10 ISO 800
Used some fill flash at -2 highly diffused with home made diffuser. Had to use flash because of the slow shutter speed. I’m happy with how it worked out.
Very cooperative and attractive subject. Used Neat Image for some noise reduction and just a bit of levels and sharpening in PSE 11.

That’s very nice Padraig, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these, I would have remembered I’m sure with those colours.

whats your noise reduction technique. I find with macro where you will almost definitely be cropping, grain becomes visible on any SLR above ISO 400, but PSE noise reduction just softens everything up so its either a sharp grainy pic or a soft smooth pic.
I use Neat Image on the default settings. Its not even the most up to date version. Cost me around €30.

Possibly my favourite moth (except some of the micro moths). Pin sharp details & nicely composed. Just can’t fault it. Well done
Thanks Miki. I’m very happy with it. Would have preferred to have had my tripod with me but thanks to the flash I pulled it off.
