So myself and Aidan went to watch Ali and Sarah (my daughter) roller skating in the Phoenix Park today, and couldn’t resist getting a portrait of the Skater girl in while we were there. Maybe some “action” shots to follow ;-)

Is there anything at which this utterly waiferly butterflyerly muse does not excel?
Absolute eye candy robbie.
Have to say though, that I could have probably taken this one. It’s hard to go wrong with your subject.

I will possibly get into trouble for saying this but what is it with the whole cult of personality nonsense going on here ? I see it all the time in threads left and right anytime Ali is mentioned. Dont get me wrong I actually have nothing against ali whatsoever – she seems like a reasonable moderator by all accounts but this whole grovelling creepiness is very uncomfortable for those of us who use this forum for photography related stuff. Ok reading that back I know I will incur the wrath for that but it has to be said – and I am pretty sure I am not the only one who is put off by this.
To the OP technically I think its a fine shot – possibly a bit soft.
So Gerard, do you never hang out with your friends or take pictures of them?
A very strange comment to make Gerard. No.1 because it has nothing at all to do with the shot and since you rightly point out this is a Photography related site..I’m not sure what relevance it has at all.
No.2 because I resent your tone in implying because I post a photo of a friend of mine, who is also a model, that I am in some way grovelling?? For what purpose exactly?
Why is this photo any different because it features Ali?
and exactly why does it “have to be said”. Maybe one of the other members that you are claiming to speak for would like to contribute?
It’s strange really, because I have seen multiple shots of many different people on this site..and I don’t ever recall you making any comment before?

I believe it has more relevance than the amount of sugar coated ‘lets compliment Ali’ comments that abound on this site.
Hmmm…Gerard..that is a rather harsh observation.
I use this site for photograpghy education. I also use it for fun and sometimes I like to connect with friends on here.
I comment on many peoples’ work and I look over most of it, and if I feel comfortable commenting I do. Sometimes I comment and people never bother to acknowedge my interest.
Have you ever bothered to comment on anything I have posted for critique? Maybe you dont think it is good enough for your consideration? Ali gives me support and encouragement, and helpful critique.
I certainly don’t think I am groveling. I certainly dont think she perceives it to be either.
Truly sorry if you think I am ~creepy~ I really am not. Nor are my friends for that matter.

It’s an interesting comment however, and should be taken seriously as you obviously find it neccessary to make. I’ll consider it before I post in the future.

Again I want to say that I have nothing against Ali in any way shape or form – and if this thread makes her uncomfortable then I would apologise to her if thats the case – otherwise I stand by what I said.
Gerard, you might want to take it elsewhere or deal with it offline. I can’t see how it is relevant to Robbie’s shot. If you can’t handle some friends being nice to each other then that’s something for you to deal with in your own privacy.

Well I will have to say something that has to be said Gerard. To me..that comment sounds a lot like envy ..for whatever reason.
Maybe on the other forums you post on, personal attacks, which this most certainly is, are commonplace. But I do not believe they are on PI. This is only the second occasion since I joined up that I can recall a post as obviously vitriolic and nonsensically insulting as the one above, and absolutely unconnected to photography in anyway.
In my opionion, and it is just that, if you get the stick you seem to think you will get for it, then it is thoroughly deserved. It is not in the spirit of this site.
End of story as far as I’m concerned.

You are welcome to that view point – in my view its incorrect to assume that my objection is in any way based on envy. Again for the backrows – I have nothing against Ali whatsoever. I happen to think she is a fine photographer and model.

My comments were directed at addressing the tendency of some posters on here to heap sugar coated compliments with disregard for the more neutral users of this board.

You could be right – in any event it wont be the end of the world, I am big enough to take an occasional virtual beating trust me. I just thought that it needed to be said thats all.
