Well Robbie I think it is a lovely character shot of a lovely girl.
See that Ger, more compliments for the wonderful Ali.
If you’ve got a problem with Ali or anyone complimenting Ali ( or in fact any other
respected and admired member of this site ) then I suggest you either save your moronic and ill though out comments for yourself
or take them up with AdminAgain Robbie – very nice shot

My comments were directed at addressing the tendency of some posters on here to heap sugar coated compliments with disregard for the more neutral users of this board.
Again.. I have to ask…what relevance has that got to photography? Why would “neutral” users, whatever they might be, be even interested in posts that may or may not compliment other users?
I am kinda curious exactly who, apart from yourself, you are speaking for? because obviously these neutral users have been reading this if they are out there, and have decided to let you do all the talking for them!
I’d like to see them post their opinions for what they are worth, partly because I don’t think you are expressing your point very well and partly just cos I’m a curious kinda guy. If there are users out there apart from yourself who have such heartfelt grievances why don’t they just post it up here now that you have championed their cause for them?
So far you are the only one who seems to feel strongly enough to air your views.
GrahamBParticipantRobbie,
I have slight suspicion that both common sense and a strong degree of respect will
prevent anyone else from commenting in the manner that Gerardk felt necessary.
Even if his opinions are shared by others I doubt they will post them here.Anyway I would like to say again that I do like the shot you took but I really don’t think the
ridiculous comments made by one person are worthy of any further discussion.
We should draw a line under the whole thing and move on.
After all we have photography to discuss. ;-)ExpresbroParticipantAwww..spoilsport
I’ll leave it at that from me anyway…I’m off to sunnier climes for a bit….
Get a few million shots or so….be busy when I get back…
Adios peeps :D :D
SteveDParticipantI’m never really sure how to critique a portrait, but what I like here is the eye contact. Ali’s expression looks very natural, nothing false or forced. I don’t like the arm position in the bottom corner, although I’m sure Ali wasn’t keen to let you remove it for the shot :D I’m not sure if you sharpened for web display, but I think it could do with a little bit more.
Were you shooting with a prime or a zoom?
Also, I’m sure Ali would appreciate it if all further comments here were about the photo itself. Thanks everyone.
AimeeParticipanthey Rob, i like the shot.
I think I would have cropped out the lowepro clicky thing though as the branding is distracting.paddymcgrathParticipantI think a tighter crop would work great. her hair is slighlty distracting to me …

I quite like the Lowepro strap sticking in there… looks kinda Tomb Raider-ish! :p

..Her hair is distracting to anyone within 15 feet on a windy day too!! :)
Si
ciaranParticipantProbably not the best portrait I’ve seen of Ali or see from yourself Robbie.
Exposure looks pretty hot to me and it’s rather flatly lit. The light from above has casted deep shadows around her eyes, which isn’t flattering. The central composition is also quite static and doesn’t make the shot pop. Finally I’d consider cropping out her arm in the bottom right corner.
