Slide Projector and Slides?
-
ExpresbroParticipant
I’ve been asked by a neighbour of mine if it’s still possible to buy a slide projector, and also if it’s possible to convert digital photos to slides?
I would imagine that most people would go the opposite way these days, but this is for an old folks home thing and they really want the old style projector and slides.
Anyone got any info or helpful pointers it would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robbie
jb7Participantthere’s just no explaining to some people…
So let’s get this straight, they have their pictures on digital,
but want to convert them to slides to project them? They’re just winding you up Robbie…
Dave (the Darkroom) has a good one for sale-
not sure if it takes memory cards…Surely this is in the wrong section?

Robbie, I had this done by Repro 35 on Merrion Square quite a while back. Their website is http://www.repro35.ie/

thedarkroomParticipantI still have the projector if you’re interested but to be honest for this project I think it’s a bit of a lame duck. How about borrowing a video projector instead and connecting that to a power point presentation. I know the quality of a digital projector won’t match that of a slide projector but, let’s be honest here, you are working from a digital original anyway and it’s not going to match that of an original 35mm slide. I can give you a loan of a digital projector if you want to try it out but it’s not that good and the resolution is only 800×600 so you will see the pixels on screen. Ideally you would need a HD model but it would depend on the size of the projection anyway so if it was going to be no bigger than 6×4 foot then it might be OK. Still no match for a 35mm job though. PM me if you are interested in borrowing either or both projectors to try out,
David
ExpresbroParticipantThanks guys.
Yes, I know it’s mad, but I can assure you it’s not a wind up. We’ve tried to convince him that it’s a hell of a lot easier to use a laptop, but this guy is in his late 70’s and is totally befuddled by technology.Email is a major undertaking usually. He already has a laptop and a digital projector, but finds this too complicated to set up.
He is basically trying to go back in time and have a set up that he knows, he’s used Slide projectors in the past.
I don’t think quality is going to be an issue here, this is for presenting local snaps to elderly people in a retirement home. Unless there’s an old JB amongst them, they wont be complaining about pixel counts.. ;-)
Joseph..it probably isn’t the right section..but I didn’t know which one was for this type of thing, and since a lot of folks seem to spend more time in here than anywhere else..well…ya know :-)
Dave, thanks for the offer. Before I ask for prices or borrow a 35mm projector I’ll see if I can get him a cost on converting digital images to slide format.
I suspect the cost of that might well dissuade him from the Slide Projector angle anyway :-)
Cheers again
Robbie

I reckon it just might…
