Following a great trip to the zoo today, here’s the first of my shots.

I’ll post the rest up soon, but dashing outm so a quick post and run!

    C&C welcome as always

Just bought a 2x extender for my 70-200 sp having a play with my “new” 400mm lens…

This is the full frame – NOT a crop.

Great capture Tim, you can even see the dandruff  . Really like it, great framing and dof. I can’t quite remember the setup from
my own trip to the zoo during last week, but does this cat have to be shot through glass?

Reminds me of your lovely lady portrait from a while back, for some strange reason,
though maybe a before shot rather than the final edit-

It does need a little tidying up-
but looks like a good beginning-
perhaps I’ll come back to it post the (inevitable) processing

(just seen Rob’s mentioned the dandruff)

    :D

    Tim,
Is that one of the cubs? Really nice shot. I’ve got a b/w of one of them when they were about 2 months old that is somewhat similar. Every great zoo shot I see seems to be shot with a 70-200.

it’s shot through glass. This one looks like it was in the house? The glass was all misted up when I went in on Saturday and they were out playing. They were asleep when it cleared up. A pity … it was the cubs that I really wanted to see.

    Joe (or is it Aidan???)

This shot is of the mother (IIRC), and is shot from the central window of the outdoor enclosure. Got some great ones of the cubs fighting, so will be posting those at some point soon. Missed a stunning shot of one of the tigers running full belt and jumping up onto the glass at me – the lens I had on at the time can’t focus less than 1.2m away, and it was only about 10cm from my face!! To say I jumped would be an understatement!

Gimmie a shout next time you’re heading up there – I’m always keen to go for more shots!

Hah! Same thing happened to me … just with the “small” one. The first time was hilarious. A mother and her very young daughter were in the viewing area. The mother literally had just left and the daughter waited a second before following. Then the cat jumped and started battering the glass. Next thing I hear a very quiet little girl saying very slowly …. “Mommy, I’m scared”.

    It’s Aidan :-)

The mother Leopard is Ciara. She’s a beaut. She’s a first time mom AFAIK. She accidentally killed one of the original 3 cubs. That’s pretty common for big cats apparently. They step or lie on them and and kill them very easily. Can’t wait to see the Cub action shots. I really wanna shoot some of that.
