Known as snuffling. The resulting holes are called ‘snuffle holes’. Unmistakable if you find them in your lawn or golf course! They’re round and deep.

    Padraig,
would love to know how you get to capture the great images of badgers and other wildlife displayed on your website.
I have a number of setts quite close to me, deer actually sleeping in my garden…I know I need to set up hide.
What time of the day do you capture these?

    Thanks Mike.
The badger photos were captured from dusk onwards (2100-2300). Its not necessary to use a hide with badgers, just stay down wind an remain quite. They will come to peanuts or raisins easily. I pre focus the camera on an area bated with raisins and fire it remotely using a cheap wireless shutter release. I use two or sometimes 3 flashes, but one will work also. You do require a licence from National Parks and Wildlife. Its not difficult to get. I use a red filtered torch to see them in the dark. They ignore it completely.

    Padraig,
what exactly do you require a license for? photographing badgers in the National parks or anywhere in the country?
thanks a lot for your insight.

Since 2000/2001 the wildlife act was amended and all protected species require a licence to photograph or film them near the nest/breeding site ie. a badger sett.

Great image Padraig, the bluebells are a great addition.
