So i shot myself

you already know how much i think of this shot … but need to say it here as well :-)

it is my fav shot of you ever, and kind of reinforced what i have always felt, that it was you who brought the style to shoots involving you … we as photographers would have to be rubbish to muck up a shoot with you.

here you get to show your creativity as a photographer using yourself as model .. and in my opinion it puts us all to shame.

fav shot of the year so far

Just some quick clarification. I didn’t mean the criticism I made of this photo to be personal. Sorry if it came across that way. I don’t think you’re sordid. I find the finished image sordid. I like art that is uplifting, cheerful, beautiful. This is somehow bleak, depressing, stark. Perhaps it’s an issue of taste.

Regarding the hypodermic comment: Mark has already had to point me to the rules twice since I joined; it might be best if I avoid discussing my critique because I think it might be a further transgression.

    I kinda like this,

I would like to have seen slightly more of your face though
Also I think if you had used the other shoe in your hand and had the shoe on your right foot. It just seems like you right leg is a little uncomfortable and the shoe might of balanced it more

What mus your nieghbours think, see you decorating your loo like this, he he

and robbies I agree, whats with the obsession with toilets, he he

I think its a good picture – compsoition wise theres a lot going for it, the wall behind looks cool too and screams out for this kind of picture to be taken there. Would prefer to have seen a higher resolution version though as this one is hard to make out.

Like this a lot (can you come and decorate my ensuite please?)

It has a sort of “edgy” feel to it, which I like – thumbs up from me…

Thanks a mil all for the comments

Graham :) I’m not sure what exactly i’m discounting :) I’ve no problem selling you a shot, i’m sure i can sort out a going rate for you.

Rob – Thanks a mil, the collage took me the guts of a half an hour, by the time i searched through mags and found what i needed. If you saw the mess i made :D. As for the classification, not really sure myself to be honest. Maybe alternative? As for the hair, i definitely think it would have killed the mood of the shot if i left my hair completely straight. Thanks again for the comment. :) P.S if you ever want to try on any of my “outfits” let me know ;)

Denverdoll :) Aww thanks a million. Don’t really know how to respond to that one :)

Tim: Thanks a million – delighted you love it.

Mark: Thanks :) Boredom affects me in the strangest of ways :)

David_S: I’ve worked with so many talented photographers, it was great to be able to work with those i truely admired. You know me! :) I’ll have to give you a print as a trade for the Bender shot :)

Bjorn: appreciate the comments, critiquing a photo is not always about how is looks, alot of the time it’s about how it makes you feel. I’m delighted you took the time to convey your feelings.

Steve: Thanks a mil :) Agree with you on the composition, i think though, in this case it’s probably a matter of taste. I definitely wanted it to appear more adhoc, captured opposed to orchestrated. Not sure if my composition helps that though?

Gerard: Thanks a mill. Are you still shooting models yourself?

Tara: Thanks a mil :) I’ll decorate your ensuite no problem at all. As long as you don’t ask for Laura Ashley :D

What I like about this is the dedication towards achieving a certain goal. Obviously you had a shot in mind and then you had to go about cleaning the lavatory  (I could have married Prince William) cutting out all the faces and eyes out of magazines, sticking them all to the wall, then setting up the camera and lighting, getting undressed ( 8) ), and then pulling it all off to produce the final image. With that in mind, it surprises me to hear you say that you wanted it to appear ad hoc rather than set up? Either way, I’m not sure it makes any difference to the final image which is excellent – very Sunday magazine type thing.

I’ve come back to this shot a couple of times so I really should say something about it! It’s very good, as has been mentioned already it has an ‘edgy’ feel to it. For some reason it reminds me of the video for an old Oasis song called ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, it does have a ‘rock n roll’ feel to it. The collage in the background is great, the whole thing is great. Well done.

    Cracking work.
Goes to show that good thought and effort pull together into a great image.

I was busted down to 11 images for my A from 30 recently so I understand the grief getting it together..

Ah, so this is where the ideas from poses etc come from…. rip pictures out of magazines and stick em on your wall for comptemplation while sitting on the throne :)

Nice lighting and a really good punchy black and white shot (I’d like to see it a bit bigger). Very much agree with the previous post about a rock ‘n roll feel – that’s exactly what I thought when first seeing it.

    Good one Ali!

Thanks a mil all for the comments. I’ve received a great response on this shot and even a showcase on one site. I suppose whatever about producing 1 image I really want to come up to the standard where i can produce a series of 6 shots that are consistent yet are individual enough to hold the viewer’s interest – hmmm, the hard part. I worked with a guy in Holland one weekend, his stuff is worth checking out.
Gilbert Duivesteijn. An insipration and a big kick up the ass. To be honest, enough to tell me my work is better than it was but not as good as i want it to be .

Wow. That site has me crying… I’ll just slip my camera bag under the bed and leave it there.

I’m more into simple shots – I usually do not like to look around image sofr all the little details. I like single focal points.

But I like this and I dont know why. Guess that’s a good sign for the image!

    Merv.
