First attempts at sports shots with the D80 poor thing didn’t know what had happened as it was the first time out of the house     . Nothing great the weather etc was terible.

This was an U18 top of the table clash and my sons team won 3-2.

The huge DOF is hurting the shot as the house in the background and the net catch your eye too quickly. It looks a little underexposed, and the shutter speed is about perfect (tiny bit of movement on the ball which is nice, stil fast enough to freeze the faces).

Try using a longer lens to cut it down to 2 players, and if you shoot while there is nothing close behind them, then there will be less of the distractions in focus.

And where were you standing? Looks like you were on the pitch! :-) An 85mm lens is very short for field sports. If you done have a longer lens, try standing behind a goal, off to one side and wait for the action to come to you.

I wasn’t on the pitch probably about half way line. There was so much going on that I was trying to get some action and the ball etc. Never really fgot that close to the action very windy day and the ball was flying everywhere which really didn’t help.
    Thanks for the tips.
