This is from a match at the 15 acres a couple months ago, C & C welcomed.

There didnt seem to be much that could be done with the sky – so I darkened the trees across the middle band to try and break it up a bit more.

The original is over here :

The moment of shoting is perfect. Good position and expression of the face of the player. But, missing the sharpness what is very important for sport photography.

I think the parts that arent moving are sharp – like the ball and the hand and the foot thats on the ground.

Thats actually what I liked about this one. The fact that it captures the movement of the parts that are moving and sharpness in the parts that arent. But yes in terms of standard sports photography I know that papers dont tend to publish blurred pictures (which is why this one didnt see the light of day tiill now).

I’m with Roberto on this one. The hand and ball are both in sharp focus, but they’re not the subject of the shot? The timing was bang on as was the framing but I’d have kept this one from seeing the light of day because of the focusing :?

I think its more motion blur than out of focus – but fair enough.

Gerard I agree with you and understand why you are proud of the shot even to get it is hard enough (if that makes sense). What camera are you using.

For me, my eye is drawn to the clearest part of the shot, the guy’s right hand. I follow the action (my vote is also for motion blur, esp on the kicking foot) down to the ball, but my eye doesn’t stay there. Is it because the ball is too close to the edge/corner of the frame? Is it that bloke in the sunglasses distracting me? I don’t really know.

Nice timing, but the focal point of the shot is difficult for me to put my finger… er, eyes… on!

Take it or leave it (my thoughts, that is!)
