Soft Colours

    Hi All,

    Was looking at some landscape photography earlier, in particular photos of some of the places I’ve shot at.

    I came across some shots from a guy called Richard Creagh which caught my attention. His shots seems to have wonderful soft colours in compared to similar shots I’ve taken.

    Just wondering if anyone could comment on the process of achieving these shots, a couple of examples are:
    http://www.richardcreagh.com/light-shower” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
    http://www.richardcreagh.com/doo-lough” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    I think personally I have a habit of over-saturating shots which can lead to some unnatural looking shots, that’s something I can address but I’d love to know the factors in achieving such soft and natural looking pics.

    I suspect its all in the light, Paul. The above two shots all look like they are shot in warm, low contrast light typical of the light seen around sunrise and sunset, or the golden hours as they are referred to. This type of light should mute the colours like you are seeing, as well as imbue the scene with a wonderful warm glow.
