This is a great lens at a good price [no, I’m not on commission :) ].
Anybody currently using the 18-55 kit lens should consider ditching it in favour of this one. As zoom lenses go, its quality is great and the zoom reach makes it a great walkaround/holiday lens.
With Nikon’s crop factor of 1.5 built in it comes out as a 28mm to 105mm. The 105 end is great for portraits as focal lenghts around 100mm (with crop factors built in) are condsidered ideal for portraits. This area particularly is where all 18-55 kit lenses fall down IMHO. They don’t come near that sweet spot for really good portraits,
