I agree, a longer focal lenght would really help. I can imagine how hard it is to take surfing shots. I always leaf through surfing magazines as the quality of the photography is always astounding.
It helps that they have amazing (and expensive) kit and know how to put it to good use. I use radio transmitters sometimes to fire flashes remotely and was amazed to see an article on a surf photographer that he did the same. He used swimmers in the waves to hold the waterproofed flash guns to highlight the subject.
I’d agree with earthairfire that these are a touch on the dark side. I reckon if you lightened them and boosted the contrast they’d be much stronger and possibly a slight bit of cropping.
After all that, I really like these but I think the 1st image is my favourite, nice shape and posture on the board!
Thanks for the comments guys, I probably need to configure my monitor properly, and need to learn how to use Photoshop properly too!
I’d love a new long lens but right now I’m in no position to go spending any money on kit. Also sunny days and good surf aren’t exactly common in Ireland so when I do have a bit of cash it’ll probably be spent on waterproof housing rather than a long lens anyway.
