shutterbugParticipantvery cute :) not sure if the background really does anything for them,
though I dont know what colour would be better, maybe a darker background
for the Russian Silver’s would show them off better?ZoundzMemberThanks! :) I’m never sure about backgrounds either   I use white for the darker varieties, and I’m a bit obsessed with having uniformity in my photos   as many end up on the website, and white seems a decent neutral sort of colour. Thing is, really, I need a different background colour to complement each different variety – not so easy!
Might try and pick up a black background at somepoint, see how that works :)

shutterbugParticipantI find fleece blankets are great for backgrounds, they are cheap, available
in loads of different colours, easily washed (in case of accidents :) ) and dont
reflect light. Maybe a beige/brown would suit ??ZoundzMemberfleeces are what i use now (these pics were on tissue though) – however, people have said that they blend in too easily with beige… *points to website* all my current website photos are beige! lol

dar_dParticipantZoundzMemberRestlessNativeMemberlovely little fellas! been a few years since I had rats
excellent job on the focus but I really don’t like the kitchen roll, try and find something with less texture imo
EeyoreParticipantHave never liked rats but I have to say after seeing these pictures they look so cute.
MoongirlParticipantI want one ! :)
They are really good shots of really cute subjects, I think you did
really well to get them so in focus, when they probably don’t keep
still for a second !Mitch
pihjinMemberAww they are gorgeous.. I love the pic of #2 with his/her eyes all closed!!!
I’d love one of these guys!Nice focus in the shots but I agree that the tissue paper distracts a bit.
Also note to dar_d : if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. You wouldn’t insult a model this way or even a family dog so don’t insult an animal someone cares about even if you don’t like them.
CooksterParticipantFor the background, try seperating the foreground from background by using a seperate light source (maybe a blue light from the ground focused on a sheet or fleece hung over the back of a chair??).
A lot of the shots are very similar, how about experimenting with DOF to show detail in those large back feet and tail? Or trying other angles? I know they are prob hard to keep still.
They are very cute though, if my bro sees this he will want some to add to his Rat, Gerbil, Hamster, Mouse, Hedgehog, Dog and Car (no typo) collectionSean

These guys must be hard to keep still.

ZoundzMemberThank you all! :D I didn’t like the kitchen roll either on review. :) I may well start experimenting with closeups on certain ‘bits’ of the rats! :) These photos were mainly taken for the new owners and the website, so that’s why they’re so uniform and a bit boring
