Some recent shots

    Hi folks,
I’ve not posted in this forum in a bit, so here’s some recent work for you to tear apart :)
I think I need more boys to work with, before someone starts to think it’s all girls, girls, girls.
Not that I have a problem shooting images of pretty women.. don’t get me wrong!

The lighting is gorgeous.. but the two balck and whites are much more distinctive to me.. they stand out somehow . If I had to nit pick (and it seems i do ;) )I’d like to see more of the Iris in the first BW and in the second . I’d crop higher into the shoulders – the area around the arm pits is distracting .

Love those two .. super images

Have you been swotting up on the lighting style of Daniel Hice? That was the first thing that came into my head when I saw your no. 3 image! I really like 1 and 2 also, but I’m afraid 4 and 5 don’t do anything for me.

4 and 5 were done with straight 550ex/Sigma 500 which is quite a hard light and not to everyones taste. The hard lines and shadows it creates are why they started to create umbrellas and softboxes. I am in agreement with cropping 5, but my fear was just that it would look like a head with no support. I’ve seen this look all over the place and just wanted to emulate it. It’s just a butterfly light setup basically.

As for Dan Hice? I actually have an image in my successful LIPF panel that uses almost identical lighting, prior to see to seeing any of his (amazing) stuff.
The nude of the girl with her hands in the air with the rear kickers just kissing the body is one of my favourite nudes. It’s a really outstanding image.

Numbre three is very good, I like this low key and shadow effects !
For some of the others, I see hot spots and/or too light skin, these are distracting.
For example, on the first one, the skin is almost white on a large part, and she has hairs in the dress.
Overall it is unequal, some very good work balanced by some lower level. It would be nice to do some choice.

The first and the last are my favourites – I love the eyes in both, although I agree with Lorraine that maybe a higher crop in the last would work…

    Lovely work :D

Number 3 again. Just love that look. I always thought the hard shaddows worked only on men, but that image proves me wrong.

    Well done! Very inspiring!

    Merv.
