Some shots from The Grand Canyon

    Hi all,

I’ll readily admit Landscapes are something I am very poor at capturing, but I want to improve.

Some shots from a recent (rafting) trip on the grand Canyon using a ‘point and shoot’.
Really wished, at times, I could have had my SLR….then again….

    Comments, and suggestions encouraged!
    Thanks in avance….Peter

    They surely are Peter!

I would say you were slightly limited in what you could do in a little boat with a
point and shoot, but saying that the scenery there and the colours are quite dramatic
and you have managed to get some ok shots, the second would be my pick of the three,
I like that there is a stillness about it, and the water is smooth and nice reflections.

I find landscapes to be quite time consuming, but then I would be on dry land with tripod,
filters, shutter release etc. I have been to the Grand Canyon but only viewing from the top
and it is nice to see it from the river, a super place.

2 would be a good shot imo if you put it through post-processing:)

Ah, another set of pictures where the subject matters more than the quality. I like them ones. This seems like an amazing experience, I bet the canyon Feels twice as grand (pardon the pun) up close! You did very good considering. Thanks for sharing! :)

number 2 is defo the best. could be made stand out more with a little processing, but agree with other comments, sometimes its about the subject and not about nit picking on composition and quality!

    Thank you guys and gal!

Apologoes for the delay in responding. AND the feedback is very much appreciated.

What sort of post processing would you recommend?

It WAS an amazing experience, and one day I would like to see it from above too!

I’m not sure if you’d agree Jenny, but I found the scenery to be too panaoramic and huge for me to be able to even catch a sense of the grandure of it all.

    Thanks again!

Very nice set, number 1 would be my favorite, it tells the story of the set.

They look very good for a point & shoot, not sure I would have brought an SLR with me if I was heading down the river.

I was at the south rim on Sunday, and the shear size of the canyon is amazing, hard to believe the place is real when viewing from the top. These give a unique perspective to it.

Wouldn’t need much to bring out the colours and detail, generally speaking tweaking
exposure, contrast clarity would be all I would do, it is very surreal especially viewed from
the top of the Canyon, almost like it has been painted, I flew over it in a small plane also
and that really gives you a sense of the sheer scale of the place.
