OK – we all freak at the mere hint of a rumour of a new Canon, Nikon, Olympus, etc but the next best kept secret since the winning country of the 2008 Eurovision has been released. Sony have released confirmation that the A900 full frame 24.9 Mp camera will be released before the end of the year. If you’re expecting great things from Sony, don’t bother. The specs are the same as the A700 but with the added features of:
Full frame sensor – 24.9Mp so you can fill your HD faster
Better viewfinder – WYSIWYG in the sensor which helps composition near the edges…hmmm, Ok.
Flash – the inbuilt flash is removed…wha? Maybe more “professional” looking?
The non added features:
No live view – probably more “professional” as a result
ISO up to 6400 – nothing new there then
Up to 5fps – ditto
Pop Photo put one of it’s advantages as “a good buy if you have some old Konica Minolta lenses” For around $3,000 retail in the US it should be around…hmmm…€3,000 on release for body only in Ireland. And the Sigma 10-20mm won’t work in it!
Needless to say I won’t be investing…I’ll just write in a “9” over the “7” of A700 and I’m away with it.
Alan – your camera review specialist. Next week…the new Canon 2000D MkIV.
