I would love to know how you got the dome effect, looks really good, I am with
previous comments on the foreground, a little bit of overkill, would be a great
shot if you had left a little dark space just under the dome and cropped there.

How long did it take you to set up and shoot?

    Hi Joe,

I have uploaded the other photos of this set, please let me know what you think, but for me looking at them again, I still fell the “Space Cowboy” is the best of the bunch. The steel wool does not give the same effect in every photo which is a shame, because some of the other shots would be better if it was brighter, as you would say IMO, and it’s great to have your and others opinion.

I look forward to your comments.

    Hi Jenny,

Thank for your comments and I will see if I can do what you suggested about cropping the photo, but generally I do not use Photoshop or edit any of my photos, it’s what you see is what the camera has taken, but I guess I can see what I can come up with.

The overall shoot took about an hour and a half and in that time I took 5 photos. The exposure time on each of the photos is about 3min’s so the rest of the time was setting up and trying different things. The dome effect of sparks is achieved by taking some steel wool, tying some wire around it, setting it alight and then just swirl it around your head. As you may see from some of the other photos I have added the effect varies when doing this, sometimes it lights up more than others, but I guess with most things it’s trial and error.

Hope you like the other photos and look forward to your comments,

    Kev.

Steel Wool? Amazing I wouldnt have thought it would burn at all, I can see what you
mean by the different effects from it though I think the best effect is your first post,
though I still think it would be better without the foreground “lights” but that is just
my opinion. Well done on all of them though with the time and effort put in they are
all worthy of a mention. :)

They all have there merits for me Kev. But the simplest one (no3 in this bunch) is my fav.(also i like it more cos it hasn’t too much lighttrails) I think if ya straighten ,crop the bottom and do a little enhancement in PS you have a bril pic. (IMO – but i’m no expert).
Again, the foreground 3d effect is so unusual and i really like it, i think you have a better balance in 2 and 3 than in Space Cowboy, which works really well the more i look at them.
Its the luminous Graffiti for me that gives these pics the edge..nice find.
Again – just an opinion – hope it helps. Keep it up Kev.
By the way, its good fun going out at night doing these pics isn’t it?
