Sorry to hear about your accident John, hope all will be back to normal for you soon.
deeorganParticipantPoor John,
I hope everything went well with the operation. Best wishes John.
Hope you get well soon.Dee
jb7ParticipantMr.HParticipantBeen away and missed this one too John….. Sounds like a painful one alright…. by the look of things it won’t be a speedy recovery, but wishing you a full recovery.
nfl-fanParticipantThanks again to everyone for their well wishes.
OK… so it’s Friday… the tale:
I was always spooked about ladders… but for some reason, having been up and down this particular one (which was serving as a staircase in my new house whilst the permanent staircase was being made) I got a little too cocky.
The day of the accident I never bothered checking to ensure that it was secure and properly angled (it had been shifted by a tradesman ever so slightly when they were cleaning up). I decide to stand at the top of it and admire the craftmanship gone into a couple of doors on the upstairs landing. Next thing I could feel it slipping from under my feet… horrible feeling, one I’ll never forget… I can remember thinking “Oh sh*t”… next thing I did a Macho Man Randy Savage elbow drop to the tiled floor below.
I hopped up straight away… let a few groans out of me… then checked that my mobile phone wasn’t squished (the house is 4 miles out of town, nearest neighbour about 0.5 mile away). I was walking towards the outside of the house thinking my arm was fine… then I noticed it was hanging limp when I thought it was perched against my hip.
I rang the other half, who was down town shopping, and told her I to come and get me that I needed to go to hospital. I lay in the baking sun for 15-20 mins waiting for herself to show. When she arrived I made a sling out of a sweater and asked herself to check and make sure I hadn’t cracked any of the tiles before we headed to hospital.
“Horrific” one consultant described the x-rays. The the main surgeon came in and told me there was only one way to describe it “pure sh*t”. When you get medical terms like this you know things ain’t good.
As the song goes “If you’re gonna be dumb you better be tough”.
PeteTheBlokeMemberYou’re harder than a goat’s knee. I’m impressed.
I cut my hand in the kitchen a few years back and I knew immediately
that it needed stitches. I held it up in the air (first aid tip) and walked calmly
through to My Darling Beloved and said, “You’ll need to drive me to casualty, my sweet,
whenever you have a moment”.Her version of the story is that I ran out shouting, “TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL QUICK!!!!!”
It took 8 stitches, so I was quite pleased with myself for being so manly.
nfl-fanParticipantI don’t think I could ever go up a ladder again to be honest… I’m even half afraid to go near the staircase which is now fitted.
Worse thing about accidents like this is being able to remember them so vividly… the arm will heal, may never be 100% right but so be it, but I doubt I’ll ever go up a ladder again.
PeteTheBlokeMemberDuring all the years I went rock-climbing I was still scared of ladders. Horrible things.
nfl-fanParticipantYeah… always gave me the sh*ts… you’d think they’d have some sort of more robust mechanism for planting them in this day and age.
Cherrypicker is the only thing you’ll ever see me in scaling heights.

I do some work for a company where the secretary’s brother was killed
when a cherry picker toppled over. Stay on the floor – you can’t fall off the floor.nfl-fanParticipantYeah.. good point. Windows or Gutters need cleaning pay someone else… it’s worth it.
