Sparrows seems right, though it’s not easy to be certain with 1 and 2.
I prefer 3 and 4…. maybe 3 is marginally better (if you swap them about
now I’ll look proper silly).
I like the sparrow shot the most as well, the depth of field is nice. The contrasty harsh light can make the exposures difficult but it looks good here.
Thanks for the repsonse guys. Not too bad for my back garden!!
Pete, was looking the first two up online, and had a dud shot from the back showing the wing and head detail….seemed to fit the English sparrow description a lot. Can anyone else shed some light on that??
I have to agree with pete 3 and 4 are the best 1 and 2 i think are young sparrows (youngsters) maybe just out of the nest a few weeks as they would not be fully fledged yet or gone through the moult and would not have as much color as the adult sparrows.
I reckon the first 2 are house sparrows, probably juveniles or females
like andy77 said.
If you’re patient enough to let them get used to you then you should
be able to get quite close. Invite Noely round and he’ll have them perching
on your shoulder singing Molly Malone.
