Splashy Fen Portraits

KevinGoss-RossParticipant
These are a continuation of the portraits I did at Oppikoppi (https://www.photographyireland.net/oppikoppi-portraits-t49424.html), but at a different festival located in South Africa’s famous Drakensberg mountains. The climate and vegetation resembles Ireland more than that of Oppikoppi, and the vibe is completely different. A far more relaxed animal, Splashy Fen is populated with hippies, gypsies, nature lovers and as always the drinkers. The sunsets at Splashy Fen aren’t magnificent and much of the festival happens during the day.
markst33ParticipantI really like these. I love the processing and would love to hear what you did to achieve this result.
You have captured the experience of the day and the characters that took part very well. A really cool set of shots which I am sure your friends will love.

Green MeanieParticipantRASMITH32MemberYes super set well done!!. How did you light and process??….also the guy in the second last scares me a little :-)
alanhunt99ParticipantBrilliant. Love these. Love how you used lighting to create the effect on all the photos.
phillipMemberKevinGoss-RossParticipantThank you everyone. This was just a 430ex speedlight shot through a standard white shootthrough umbrella. I much prefer a softbox but they usually don’t survive festivals. Processing: I just bought out highlights and darkened skies selectively.
ssheridanMemberjodal1975Participantyou certainly have mastered flash lighting ! an absolutely brilliant set !

Just curious to know how you triggered the flash
>1/250th of a second would require a TTL cord and Hi-Speed Sync
<1/250th of a second you would get away with the Canon wireless system or a trigger
As all the above as good as set as you will see :D
wardleMemberthese are all fantastic shots. both the ambient lighting and the flash lighting are spot on in my eyes.
makes me want to invest in a decent flash gun!
