hi all
just wondering does anyone have any tips on how to become a sports photographer, i would love to be in croke park someday! thats my goal.
i do go to events club games and motor sport but then dont really know who to send photos to? how to make a few bob from it?
miki gParticipantHi Steph. If you look at the regular posts in the sports section, you will see different styles of sport photography and find one or more that you would like to try. Kensutz, Brownie, Flipsake, Rallymad and others should be able to help you along. Hope you make it to Croker. Good luck

Well Salcon you already are a sports photographer as you cover club games and motor sport, So you are already there ..As for Croke Park you just need to contact the people whom are in charge of passes ( accreditation) And if they think you deserve one you will get one. But before you take that step make sure you have enough images to impress them , What i mean by that is take yourself serious, be serious about how you present yourself you have to be if you want them to take You serious…. I have been told that the GAA are the worse to deal with  but then again I have never really went down the road of really seeking accreditation from them . So I cant really confirm that personally but id believe the people that told me it is so.. Just keep shooting keep asking and one day you will get the email that says you have been granted accreditation ….. Now how to make money from it     let me know when you figure that part out

I covered local club soccer games for a good few years and then started submitting to the local paper for matches they did not cover. Eventually they asked me to cover local GAA games they were unable to cover and they contact me regularly now. Regarding Croke Park for this years U21 Hurling Final I contacted Croke Park Media Section about getting accreditation but no reply to emails, phone calls etc. I then organised it through the local paper and covered the match for them as their photographer was on leave. As far as I am aware you have to apply in January for a GAA Photographers pass and if you can tie up with a local paper they might be able to sort you out in this regard for a GAA pass.
paulParticipantI’ve covered sport in Croke Park many times, but never a GAA game. I’ve covered rugby and football (soccer) there.
The GAA are very strict about who they give access to. You really need to work for a media organisation (paper, press group, photography agency, etc).
