Spot the footprints!

I took this some months ago but I’m doing a presentation to the Camera Club tomorrow evening on my progression in photography and in particular my association with this site. I came across this in its raw state as I’d been meaning to work on it when I know how to get the desired effect. Now is that time. Unfortunately this was taken when I was shooting Jpeg and I couldn’t do much about some of the artifacts. Even NoiseNinja laughed!

    Thanks Conor.

I used a Sigma 50-500mm on a 1.5 crop camera (SonyA100) with a 2x converter. So in a roundabout way it was similar to a 1500mm lens. I shot it early evening rather than at night as the brightness of the moon at night sends the meter scatty. I put in a gradiant layer in over this layer and applied a mask to bring the moon through.

So how come you didn’t put this in the Landscape section?

Unusual to see the evening version-
    works very well too-

Oh, you know me Joseph. Always the one to avoid controversy! If I’d have put it in the landscape some would say it wasn’t technically land.

The Americans might disagree but we all know thay didn’t actually land there. Ooops, there I go again.

    Thanks.

Looks great Alan… Would be really interesting to see the detail in a big print of this.

I’d love to see the detail in a big print but it isn’t going to happen with this one. An A4 print really shows up the jpeg artifacts. This was taken prior to me shooting in RAW format. It’s a few months old and when I brought it from Lightroom to PS and did some cleanup work the artifacts showed. With a sharpening they pop up more prominantly. I can get away with it under compression for the web but a keen eye will spot them in print. Maybe I’m being too particular?

    Thanks.

    Alan.
