St. Finbar’s Oratory in IR

Struggling a bit with infrared – I’m finding the results with my 12-24mm lens are highly variable and focus seems to be a problem with it. This is with the 24-70. C&C welcome.
Cheers,
Petersean1098MemberGood shot Peter, I like the the reflections on the lake and the church on the right of the pic.
What do you think of the new 24-70? I have not taken it of since I got it. :D
Sean.
nfl-fanParticipantThis is a delightful little composition.
Reminds me of something you might stumble upon in C.S. Lewis’ Narnia during the Winter reign of the White Witch.
The Oratory isn’t imposing and is slight obscured by the tree to it’s right, this adds to the almost hidden effect of a little building in a wintry landscape.
John
jb7ParticipantThat’s very nice-
looks very frosty, which I presume would not be the case-The only compositional remark I can make is a suggestion to crop out the grass at the bottom of the frame-
the bright bits demand your attention,
and that one takes you out of the frame-j
petercoxMemberThanks for the feedback.
JB: Correct – the white foliage is the effect of the IR camera. I like the idea of that crop, I’ll give that a go.
NFL: Yes, it’s pretty much impossible to get an unobstructed view of the Oratory from this angle. I like that tree as it frames the door nicely.
Sean: I’ve had this 24-70 for about 5 years now, and it’s my most-used lens. I actually ran it into the ground through hard use and had to send it in to be re-greased and generally serviced recently. Good as new now.
Cheers,
PeterRobMemberLovely image Peter, a beautiful scene well captured.
The reflections are just stunning. Might be worth the
suggested crop too to see how it might look…Rob.
ShakeyBlakeyMemberAhhh, why do I have to be the same??, I was going to say I dont like it to be different, but that would be telling a lie….., lovely pic, I must get into this IR and give it a whirl.
Ohh and yea, the 24-70 is a gem, love it, my only L lens for nowrichiehatchMemberI reflect all said above… beautiful image equally beautifully captured.

andy mcinroyParticipantThis is a delightful shot Peter,
I would agree with jb about the slight crop off the bottom. The reflection and the tones are stunning.
Great work.
Andy
lousyParticipantReally nice image with the reflections, it really catches the eye.
If you had not said it was IR I would have thought it was another frosty day.
PatJMcLParticipantI like that a lot Peter, the colours are fab.
Re the 12-24, if you’re talking about AF problems, have you ever tried focusing manually using the hyperfocal distance? I use it all the time on my 10-20 on that I find that at f8 and focused a smidgen beyond the 1m mark on the distance scale (trying for a hyperfocal distance of 3m, but the distance scale leaves a bit to be desired) with the short focal length I get everything in focus from about 50cm to infinity. Should work about as well on the 12-24, though maybe stopped down a bit more.
