St. Helen’s Bay – Mr. H Meet Up

Taken this morning St. Helen’s Bay, Co. Wexford where lousyphoto and myself met-up with Mr. H of Co. Wicklow who was in the area for a couple of days. Nice meeting you Gary!

Wonka tells me it is dark on his work monitor – It was taken whilst quite dark and I purposely kept it dark just to convey a little mood… so fingers crossed you’re calibrated.

If you think it’s too dark then read on: “Look into my eyes, look into my eyes. Not around the eyes. Look into my eyes… It’s not too dark… it’s just fine”.

Okay with that sorted… C&C… emotional or otherwise… always welcome!

    Hey NFL~~

    This is great!

The tones are lovely and the exposure is wonderful.

It is not too dark for me….(maybe your poetry has hypnotised me)..rather it displays a beautiful and calm sunrise.

I am especially appreciative of the very distant ship on the horizon on the right. It adds just the perfect touch of interest.

    Love it!

I dont think its to dark i can see the stones on the sand no probs.. really good shot. Pat on the back to you :)

    Looks good to me-
nothing wrong with the tones there-

    One thing though-
I might have preferred it had the rocks not broken the line of the horizon-
but I do like to keep things layered-
    so its no big deal-

Is that a lighthouse on the horizon?

Looks fine to me on the home monitor…you know what I said about the work piece of modern technology…for the mid 80’s – it’s quite dark. But, I’d still like to have seen more detail in the sand.

jb7: Yep, that is Tuskar Rock Lighthouse (I think) on the RHS of the horizon… lousy or wonka will probably correct me if I am wrong!

Oh, and thank you for the feedback everyone, appreciated (insert Emoticon for humble bow here)

Good to meet you this morning John. Thanks for making the effort to come and say hello.

This is great – Nicely composed and has a nice calming feel to it. Doesn’t look too dark to me. Good to see you even got the lightouse in although that may be one to clone out if you were thinking of printing it.

I guess this is one of many over the coming days… I’ll get something up over the weekend.

Very good shot John. I love the sliver of light across the sea and the whispy clouds above the rocks.
    Great shot

This is a really terrific shot NFL-fan, probably my favourite of yours so far.

Lovely muted tones, great choice of shutter speed and some nice foreground corner interest! I think it is exposed perfectly, for my tastes at least.

If I had to suggest an improvement, it would maybe have been to have the camera a little closer to the ground, and for you to have moved a few steps to your left. I agree somewhat with jb7 about the rock on the right cutting into the horizon, so if you couldn’t get high enough to eliminate it perhaps getting lower might have been the best option. Although having the clouds spouting out of the middle of the frame might not have worked either – it’s all a trade off

I’m assuming there was a bit of PM-TM involved?

    Lovely work.

Cheers for the feedback and suggestions peeps, really appreciate it.

SteveD: Forgive my ignorance Steve but what is PM-TM? Photomatix-Tone Mapping? Assuming this is right then there was none. Straight from RAW into Photoshop. Brightened the sky a little (curves + layer mask), small saturation boost, whip of the unsharp mask and nothing else. Nice to get something that works with such little effort I have to say.

Yep! Sorry, too much time being spent in photography chatrooms! I agree it is nice when they come out of the camera and don’t need much work!
