Starting Out printer?

I know I am opening up a can of worms here but am starting out at this have & my new shiny 30D & really want to start to printout some landscape & portrait work (to sell). Was told the 40800Epson was best but dont have 2,000 to spare right now. Can anyone out there recommend a good printer that can do up to A3 size & is good quality???? Or am I better off getting them printed elsewhere???

    Thanks

If you’re going to be selling the work then it’s probably worth investing in the ?1500 (or so) Epson Stylus Pro 3800 – it prints up to A2 and uses the Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks and there’s no need to switch cartridges when you switch between printing colour or mono. I’ve seen this printer in action and the results from it are simply stunning. It also appears they have solved the problem of metamerism with this particular printer. But if you’re only doing a few prints at a time, then I think you may be better off using a reputable online lab as it would most likely be cheaper (when you factor in ink and paper, the Epson can become an expensive beast to run!).

Would agree with Thorston on that but if you could get the 4800 ot would be a little better as the ink carts are larger and more economical. You would be surprised how you run through the things. You can also use a roll of paper on the 4800.
Not sure what the price difference is though.

The price difference jerry is 1000 euro approx. I use 4800 with matte black with 110 ml ink carts.I also bought a full set {8} 220ml which cost a massive 900 euro but will last a long time plus hopefully pay for themselves and more in time. Epson give a six month life on 4800 ink once opened, so dont buy 220carts at first until you see what printing miles are clocked up . Tom.

You should look at the Epson R1800,
esp. if you’re doing mostly colour-

    Hi Clawless

Have a look at the Epson, R1800 (as mentioned above), 2400, 3800 and of course the 4800. Some very hot news also the R1400 will soon be replacing the 1290. If you want further info send me a PM or call in to our shop in Malahide.
