Well, I managed to get the camera out and about again :) Its amazing how much I missed it …. we went up to Lough Owel to see what there was for taking.. plenty of little harbours and boats (and midges ) so I was happy playing around for a while.. this is the first of a couple of shots from the visit.

    I’d appreciate any C&C

Wow LoGirl. This is gorgeous. I love it. You should do more like this. It’s sublime. It’s … it’s ….words fails me.

    Brilliant.

Excellent lights and colours. My favourite is the glossy surface of the water… For the first sight I thought, well, this crop is a bit tight…maybe on the left side. Any chance you have a wider version?

    Nice work!

    Veryyyy nice Logill!!

I think the feeling of ‘tightness’ is exaggerated by those wooden poles. I would definitely consider cloning those out, and maybe boost the blue in the rope a little. Looks great as it is though.

Really nice LoGill. Light, colours, exposure etc are really nice. There is a real calmness about this picture. Well done cracking shot, show me more from the day:-)

If i was being forced to suggest something to improve this shot it would be if you zoomed out a small bit to give the boat some more room around it but I am only nit picking to make myself feel better :-)

    You should post more!

have to join in the chorus here Lorraine,
though I wouldn’t consider cloning anything-

And while at first glance I might agree with Randomway about the space thing,
I think its probably nicely balanced by the patch of sky and reflection-

    Lovely colouring too,
    very subtly done-

    Lovely shot.

Any gripes – only a minor observation. The rope looks awfully new. It’s colour looks out of place with the rest of the image. It’s only a very, very, very minor gripe but it’s a beautiful shot. Welcome back to the shooting gallery!

    Alan.

 Yikes Pete ! go easy would ya .. my head will explode :D I was so happy to actually (for once) have the right lens and filters.. :) I’m chuffed it floats your boat ;)

I’m glad you like it :) Regarding the crop, this is pretty much full frame – there were boats left and right – so portrait was the only way to go to isolate a single boat .. and even still I had to paddle on in and move a few tyres out of the frame :) I hoped the space above might free it up ..

Appreciate the tips.. will look at the rope.. thanks :) Its funny how you feel cloning the posts might open it .. ( it probably does – i had a quick look ) but what attracted me to the shot ws the posts :) I can’t see it as finished without them  .. I think this time Ill be leaving them in. Thanks for the comments and tips though – it was well worth taking a look .

Thank you Mr IR ;) I was getting a little cabin fever.. not having been out and about .. but with these lovely evenings.. i have no excuse :) I’ve lined up two more shots from here for a tinker – if they work out I’ll be sure to post them.

Yeah, I’ve taken a look at cloning based on Steve’s suggestion.. but for this I’m inclined to agree with you and leave the posts .. ideally I would have looked for some negative space left or right – but not an option in this case. Used the 10 -20 .. as if you didn’t already know :) Used a grad ND for the sky and the light on the evening was deliciously pink so it glowed everywhere and left very lilttle for me to do really :)

sorry .. I missed your comments .. that should teach you never to get stuck into a phone call mid reply .. Tskkk !

Ross… well spotted :) It was the only one with a number – I almost cloned it out .. but changed my mind in the end
beth… Thanks :) I can thank my lens for the perspective – (I almost had my feet in the shot ).. and as for the clods etc .. well it was all there to take really, as you know yourself, we’re blessed on this little rock ;)
Tim… Glad you like it – this was a tight little spot for shooting at this angle. I think I was at the 10 end of the lens.. and really really wanted sky in the frame – so this is a tight one, and pretty much out of camera.. ( i confess I had to straighten the horizon  )
Alan .. Yeah – the darn rope.. I’m half thinking of making it really stand out as blue and new as per Steve’s suggestion …( why can’t these fishermen use nice old tattered grey ropes .. *sighs* ;) )

Thanks so much for the comments, very much appreciated
