A couple of my work mates were parked down on Grand canal dock today, just beside the spar, when a car with 4 or 5 guys pulled up beside a guy who was parked behind them, apparently he was a pro photographer, they jumped out, grabbed his gear from the booth and drove away. Obviously a struggle of some sort ensued, A couple of camera bodies and lenses, apparently. Obviously this was no chance smash and grab, the guy must have been targeted solely for his equipment, which is worrying to think that criminals are tailing people in order to get their gear and not put off by the fact that the owner is still with it. So beware I suppose is the message. I don’t imagine this stuff will turn up on adverts etc,it smells of organised theft to me,but you never know, keep an eye out.
I know the photographer in question. Yeah, he’s a pro.
Crazy to hear of this, and a concern to all pro photographers who carry thousands worth of gear in their cars when working, and also very concerning for the hobby photographer who may not have the gear fully insured.
