How witty am I? Don’t answer that, instead unleash your righteous indignation at my photos. Click on the image (and link) for flickr pages and “all sizes” for larger pics.
Thanks//Cian
ExpresbroParticipantI like this one Cian. I often wonder who it is that goes to the bother of locking a bike to railings or poles and then abandons them. These things are everywhere.
Maybe it’s some kind of cult!!
Nicely framed and simple colours. Works for me.

8)FlipflipParticipantHey great shot. I really like it and its one id be proud of if it was mine.
But I just made a quick(very quick) edit, to add a bit more contrast. Hope you dont mind.
cian.m.hayesParticipantThanks lads
Robbie, I think there’s a local guy who has a website dedicated to abandoned (mainly mutilated) bikes all over Dublin city, can’t remember for the life of me where I found it.
FlipFlip, the contrast boost works! I was really trying to restrain myself in the contrast/saturation department because the original image was quite lacking so it was easy to make gigantic changes and totally ruin the image. Well that’s how it is for me anyway, I work on a laptop with a horrendous screen that defies all attempts at calibration; I’ve regularly processed an image, been happy with it and then moved my head slightly, totally ruining the image. I think you’re right though, I might boost the contrast a hair and maybe try to bring out the yellow in the bricks a bit more. I think I want to keep a softness in the colours of the bricks but still show the variation.
Thanks

AliParticipantHey Cian, well spotted. A year ago i would have walked past a shot like this. Here’s my “stranded” version (posted a few months back).

cian.m.hayesParticipantWoah, that’s really similar . . . I mean look at the name for crying out loud! I’m kinda freaked out.

AliParticipant:lol: i had to look at your profile to make sure i didn’t have a long lost twin :). Ahh maybe my subliminal messages are working after all ;)
ExpresbroParticipantCian…did a quick search and found it…interesting site.. :D Here’s a challenge…see has he got your bike and Ali’s on there…
There’s the makings of an interesting project in this…another subject..but a similar idea…

Oh those of us with too much time on their hands…hehe!!

8)nolongerParticipantI love these pictures. Used to see destroyed bikes like this all over Toronto, I haven’t done enough wandering around Dublin to really find any. And to answer the “why”, it generally tends to be the case that people lock their bikes up, then some part of it gets stolen and/or mangled, then they figure there’s no point in repairing the damaged bike. While it’s unfortunate, it lends itself to some fantastic scenes.
AliParticipantFood for thought :) I’ve never actually sat down and thought about spending a couple of months working on a project.
Have to say though – the idea really appeals to me. Great site Expresbro, almost as good as the “running for 2 seconds” idea :).
Damn – i’ll have to go and think up of something exclusive that doesn’t involve underwear, bikes and long exposures
