Nice image and the conversion really suits the image. I would crop out the car on the left as it really distracts from the over all image.

Very Much in Agreement with what seaview said ..

Another thought I have is that the pole disects the image because it exits the top… perhaps a rethink on the crop to exclude the piece of wall and to create some kind of symmetry with the pole ..

I think it’s worse this way. There is no balance in the image.

I tried to get rid of the wall like LoGill said and the result was completely empty. I deleted it because it looked horrible

For what it’s worth, I much prefer the original… with car. Without it it’s completely unbalanced and empty.
    Just my opinion though.

I think the third version works very well as there are no distractions in it and the subject stands out even more from the background.

its good to try different things – the presentation is alot cleaner in the third image and i see more of the old man ( and ofr me thats perfect) – but its perhaps more of a street image in the others !

I think ultimately you have to go with what feels right for you – oppinions are just that … oppinions.

An interesting shot becasue of the gent’s appearance and stance, but the rest of the image is a bit empty… :(

Hard to sum up why but I like it… and tend to agree that any deviation from the original post sorta unbalances the image, it really works well with the width.

One compromise is to crop as close to the far left edge as possible just before where the brick starts. It leaves a bit of the car which is handy enough to then clone it out. It keeps the balance, but removes the car.

Edit: T’is handy enough to keep the entire image and clone the car/brick wall too just making one largish wall on the lhs.

    Hi labux63,

    I like the original post.
The image of the man is very strong and I didn’t really
notice the other elemets too much because of this.

I wondered if the pole was holding up the man or if the
man was holding up the pole.

I have my usual gripe when an image is sized more than
about 800 pixels and I have to scroll and look at bits
of an image and try to imagine whatt the whole image
    might look like.

But well done on the shot.

    The second picture you posted-
    the one you don’t like-
I think that’s the best one, there’s nothing unbalanced about it-

The car adds nothing, to the composition or the narrative, in my opinion-

    good picture, makes you think…

For me the original works best. Yes, the car doesn’t help but the second is too cramped and out of proportion while the last makes it look like it should be cropped to a portrait image. If the car was there then it was there and it does in a peculiar way give the viewer, i.e. me, some reason for him doing what he’s doing however minor or distracting it may be.
