I recently did a FETAC course on DP before Christmas and submitted shots in Street Photography for my project.

Just want to show a few if I may

Great use of the zoom burst in your third picture, it really lifts it from an image we have all unfortunately seen too many time on the streets.

So I am wondering what was the reaction after you submitted these to your course project?

The reason I ask is that I usually I see street photography as a kind of documentary photography style – a “slice of life”. As a result I don’t like to see SP shots over processed (like the PS zoom blur and selective coloring).

Of course, the good thing about street photography is that definition can be whatever feels right for you. Other people may have differing opinions.

    Hi Dave,

I dont get results until the summer as the external auditor doesnt see the project work till then which is a bit of a bummer.

However, I did submit the third one to our camera club montly competition and it got good reviews but no prizes unfortunately lol –

I actually got idea from seeing other work on flickr.

I totally agree with you about “slice of life” but for that third shot I wanted to highlight the isolation of a begger as almost an invisable person of the passer bys.

On a side note I got a lecture from a homeless man (after he saw me take the shot) stating she had €60 runners on and she was doing ok compared to him.

I agree with Dave about processing on street photos.

I like the first 2, really dislike the 3rd and the 4th would be nice without the selective colouring.

So, i’m not going to give a lecture on street photography and it should be done as i myself am no master.

But i’m wondering as to why you really felt you had to process those images in Photoshop with the selective coloring and zoom blur effect. So, granted these 2 shots are not the most fascinating streets shots i’ve ever seen, but on the other hand they’re not bad either. The womans facial expression in the third shot is quite interesting and the fact that she just seems to be completely ignored by the passers by makes this as it is an interesting shot, y’know? I really don’t think you needed the zoom blur to portray the fact that she’s obviously being completely ignored. The forth shot alone, is a decent portrait shot, maybe it requires stronger b&w conversion (thats only a matter of opinion), again it didn’t need the selective coloring.. And to be honest, if it wasn’t for the photoshop processing these 2 shots i would probably find the most appealing.

Again, personally i sometimes feel gutted when i get negative feedback on my images, please don’t see my response as negative, because these shots are not bad, maybe just the wrong choice of post processing, but that can be easily fixed…

The very best of luck with the results though..

not at all, fire away, if I was the sensitive type I wouldn’t be posting shots lol

The reason I did some processing as for the course we had to show some working knowlege of photoshop and had to do some editing to the shots submitted – basically to prove that we were paying attention in class.

I have to admit I dont know how to do zoom burst in camera (oops)

    thanks for the feedback guys.
