Streets of Dublin

Thanks Lorraine, i agree with you on the first one but the uncomfortableness was intended. I passed this guy on the way into dublin castle and he was cheery reading a newspaper. I intended on asking him if i could take his picture on the way out but as you can see he was asleep and the scene played out differently. If he had been awake it could have been very different with him smiling but it brought about the reality of the situation to me. I wasnt comfortable taking the photo as is, and its not indended to be comfortable to look at, i do feel it captures the streets of Dublin though. Its not a hard scene to find any day of the week here which is definitely not a comforting thought.
LoGillParticipantI’m not criticising your choice of subject.. far far from it … I don’t think anyone shoud be invisible in our society … even when it is uncomfortable to look at. Those are my impressions on seeing it… I like the image alot – like all of these shots its very, very well taken ;) so I just wondered did you plan the shot to challenge the viewer in this way ?
Lorraine
FreeAndPhotographyIrelandParticipantIts a strange one, the shot i had originally planned would have been the first time that I had asked anyone on the street if i could take their photo. Until now most of my shots are just candids but i had been looking forward to asking this guy if it was alright and had built myself up for a number of different reactions. So it was weird that i had been preparing myself for his reaction but when i got there he was asleep, immediately i felt awkward as i had been expecting a personal exchange but then felt myself standing there. So personally for me this image is more about my own awkwardness due to the unexpected situation but represented through the uncomfortableness of the image itself. I’m not sure if any of this is making sense, you probably had to be there..
LoGillParticipant:D I think I understand what you’re saying .. . I’ve been there before myself :) Its a great series and I hope to get to see your shots when you do get a chance to talk to the people you see :)

FreeAndPhotographyIrelandParticipantThanks again Lorraine, ill post up any new ones when i get them..hopefully i can get a a bit more personal with the people i’m shooting.
