Strobe advice – SB 800

Anyone know if it is advisable or possible to use an SB 800 as an off camera extra flash head in an existing studio kit? I have a portrait session tomorrow and one of my flash heads has just exploded. I was thinking of picking up a tilt head hotshoe and popping it on my light stand with the umbrella. I have an infrared transmitter but am not sure what settings to put the SB 800 on and if I can adjust the flash output. Any advice very appreciated!

Sorry the response is late, but you can use the sb-800 off camera. If I recall correctly you have to play with some commander settings on
your camera. Can’t recall the exact details though….

Thanks Mark. I will give it a try. I think I am down to trial and error on this one.

No problem. I’m sure the info is in the sb-800 flash manual too.

you can use sb-800/900/600/700 trough CLS or as as slave/photo cell only sb800/900
CLS = Creative Lighting System it will let you use build in flash as a trigger it transfer TTL and also you can set groups and whats most important set power of your SB in you camera

I know its late replay buy may be useful for others
