Strobe flash kit for portrait shooting
-
jonwrightParticipant
yet again need advice! On the look out for strobe flash kit, 3 light set up, to take portrait shots, have a small room set up as a studio, unfortunately on a really tight budget :( saw some kits on internet etc, but thought I’d seek the advice of the knowledgeable ones here first .Any advice really appreciated
thanks Jon
shutterbugParticipantI guess it is “you get what you pay for” Jon, so even though your budget is
tight you are really better off spending that little bit extra to get a decent
set up. I dont have any experience of studio lighting but the Elinchrome
seem to be a very popular brand.Give Paddy Barker or Sheldon photographic or any of the site sponsors for
some sound advice.jonwrightParticipantjonwrightParticipantalso wondered if you can advice me some more please? I’ve been asked to do a friends wedding,(first one:(!!) but need some advice on which lenses to put on my two bodies, I’ve a 5DMKII and a 500D, lens wise I’ve a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm as well as the usual 50mm 2.8 what would be the best combination so I won’t have to be changing lenses?
Someone told me I’d need to get a wide angle lens such as the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, but have to be honest I can’t afford that, unless its possible to rent somewhere down here in Kerry.
appreciate all the advice you can give.
thanks
JonshutterbugParticipantAgain I am no expert, but would imagine you would manage ok with 24-70 for the wide
shots such as group, unless it is an enormous wedding that you would have to be half a mile
away to fit them all in. Then the 70-200 would be fine for every thing else, If your 50mm
is 2.8 then you have that covered on the 24-70, so unless you can get hold of a faster 50mm like
a 1.4 or 1.8 for inside the church, though that might not be necessary if it is well lit. I presume
you have visited the church to check out lighting etc beforehand?Best of luck, you are a brave man  Look forward to seeing some shots.
jonwrightParticipantThanks Jenny, don’t know if I’d say brave!!! :)
Just doing them a favour as they’ve had a bad year.
I was wondering if I’d be better putting the 70-200 on the 500D as with the crop ratio it would work better for my close up shots and leave the 24-70 on the 5DMKII? oh why did I offer!! loljonwrightParticipantshutterbugParticipantNo problem Jon best of luck, I am sure
