Struggling with light polution

I know the image isn’t focused very well, but I just wanted to highlight how light polution makes it very difficult to view the night sky and spoils any chance of getting decent photos of it’s faint detail.

In this particular case, I wanted to photograph the Milky way above the river, but there were 3 very strong spotlights shining from one building, from which the light was blinding from approx a half mile away. The light from these spotlights was washing out the detail in the sky from even further away & they stayed on all night. In the second image, I was about a mile away & the light is still visible on the treetops. I can understand street lighting being on all night, but surely the owners of premises like these can fit security sensors to spotlights, so that they only come on when there is movement in the immediate area.

Get out the snipers rifle and take the 3 lights out ;-)

Excellent suggestion, but don’t tempt me.
